You are on your way to one of the most breath taking parts of South Africa – Plettenberg Bay. Now as a nature lover I can be honest with you and say that Plettenberg Bay and Knysna area is one of my absolute favorites. Not only are the views something out of this world but the fresh smell of the forests around you will leave you coming back for more!
Let’s take a look at what there is to do in your area? The biggest attraction in Plettenberg Bay is the world renowned Monkeyland Sanctuary. Monkeyland was established in 1998 with the mission to rehabilitate previously imprisoned primates. Monkeyland is one of the biggest attractions on the Garden Route and has received numerous awards like the “Best Animal Welfare Initiative” and the Skal International Sustainable Tourism Award as the “Best Major Attraction”.
Monkeyland offers guided tours through their illustrious forests where you will be able see over 550 different species of primates roaming around in a safe environment. The tour leaders have a vast knowledge about all the animals found in the park so the kids will also learn something while walking around.
There is a little restaurant where you can enjoy a fantastic Cappuccino and eat a little snack before you take a walk through the well-stocked curio shop. And the fun doesn’t end there! The Birds of Eden Park is right next to Monkeyland and thus it makes a great day trip to walk through both of the famous establishments. You will see variety of birds all around you. Colors like you have never seen on animals will leave you smiling the rest of the day.
Even though the birds are a beautiful sight to behold, the monkeys swinging from trees will always be a more adventurous choice for all young kids!
So come and enjoy the beauty and ‘googly-ness’ that only monkeys can display at the same time.
